JOY DAPHINE .N. ATKINSON

Joy is an avid Lawyer, Researcher, Arbitrator and certified Mediator. She draws from an eclectic professional background in commercial law, advanced mediation, international arbitration, research, communications and teaching.  In addition to her present involvements, Joy is a blogger who has written many articles on dispute resolution related matters in Uganda’s newspapers and online at joysworld8@wordpress.com. Joy has worked as a Document reviewer

in California, USA, and as a litigation lawyer; she also worked as a legal researcher for a consultancy firm, a legal advisor to Greenfield Uganda Ltd a private company, and as a legal intern with the Parliament of Uganda. She also founded and is the President emeritus of Bagwere Batakangana, a company in Uganda whose core value is to empower the community to engage in self-sustaining projects that enhance both community and individual development.

Joy is a graduate of Makerere University School of Law receiving the LLB and was the first Ugandan lawyer to be admitted at Pepperdine’s famous Straus Institute (ranked as the world’s #1 dispute resolution program by US News and World News) where she earned a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Commercial Law & Dispute Resolution. There, she gained extensive experience in conflict resolution and received three awards for her outstanding accomplishments in mediation: “CALI Excellence for The Future Award for Excellence in the Study of Negotiation” and “CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Excellence in the Study of US Law.”

She also has a post graduate diploma in legal practice from the Law development Centre Kampala.
